Eating Solids, Part 2

After a three day hiatus from eating solids, due to an intolerance to oatmeal, we tried feeding Peyton rice cereal. He loved it!

In fact, he loved it so much that he grabbed the spoon!

After three successful days of rice cereal, we adventured with homemade squash puree. He was a bit surprised with the new taste.

But that didn't stop him from eating it up!

And liking it!!

Satisfied after a tasty meal!

Peyton is Eating Solids!

Peyton started eating solid foods on Friday! Over the past month, he became increasingly interested in food. At his doctor's appointment last week, Dr. Glinder said the final 'test' was to see if he grabbed at food which he started doing the next day. As she has over 20 years of experience introducing food to infants, I deferred to my Mom as to what to start with (and with Dr. Glinder's permission). Mom finds that oat cereal is a little more gentle on infants' stomachs so that's what we started with.

Friday morning, I prepared some oat cereal and headed over to my parents' house. As I wanted to capture the moment, I let my mom have the honor of feeding him. He loved it!

Friday night we noticed a few pimples on his chin. Peyton is quite the little drool monster, so I figured it was just that.

Since it went well on Friday morning, James and I decided to feed him more yesterday morning. He loved his high chair, and really enjoyed his meal! Making it even more special, the spoon I used was MY baby spoon. It's the perfect size for his little mouth.

Unfortunately, the "acne" from Friday night spread over yesterday afternoon, so it looks like Peyton is intolerant to oats. He is starting food a little early (though many children do start as early as 4 months), so we'll give it a few days to clear up and then will try rice cereal. We'll reintroduce oats in a few months.

Singing with his Mobile

Peyton really loves his monkey mobile and likes to 'sing and dance' along with the music.

Sadly, he's starting to push up on his arms, so the monkey mobile isn't going to be around much longer, unless James can figure out a way to extend it higher than it is now. Once he can push up on both his arms and legs, it's bye-bye mobile time. :-(

Peyton Still Loves Bath Time

As Peyton has gained better control of his arms and legs, he really loves to splash around in his bathtub. Here's a video showing how much fun he has!

Singing with Dad

Peyton loves to hang out on a blanket on the floor. He'll sing, talk, and kick his legs. Here's a short video of a "conversation" between James and Peyton. As you'll hear, James is really ecouraging him to start crawling.

Peyton enjoys tummy time on the floor. This was him on Friday night before his bath.

Fun at Day Care

Peyton is having such a fun time at day care with Grandma Nelida, Grandpa Oscar, and Great-Aunt Angela (Grandma #3). Angela also has a day care but currently only has one child so she brings him over to play with Peyton everyday to help with each of their socialization skills.

Grandma and Grandpa have a nice backyard with a giant play structure and soft padded ground cover. They put up a jumper which Peyton just loves to play in. He just loves being outside!

The play structure has two swings and Peyton just loves to feel the wind in his face as he swings!

4 Month Doctor Visit

Today was Peyton's four-month check up appointment with Dr. Glinder. Dr. Glinder continues to be happy with Peyton's development. He was surprised to see that Peyton plants his legs down when held up on the table. It looks like he will be an early walker, just like his Daddy was (at 9 months). By the way Peyton kept kicking his legs while lying down, we all agreed that swimming lessons will be a must as soon as he turns six months (along with running and kicking and cycling when he starts walking and beyond). We are going to have one active kid!

Peyton is also showing more interest when we eat, so once he starts grabbing for our food, we'll start attempting solid foods - typically begins within 4-6 months. I've got my Beaba Baby Cook ready to start preparing all his food freshly rather than buying pre-processed food or dry cereal. Living in California, there's just no excuse to not go fresh.
:-)

Peyton's measurements were as follows:

His "height"/length is 24 inches, putting him in the 15th percentile among other male babies his age.

His weight is 15 pounds, 1-1/4 ounces, 52nd percentile.

His head circumference is 41.1 centimeters, 20th percentile.

It's funny to think that he's "small" by percentile comparisons because he just looks so big to us!

Pictures to come later. :-)

Are you Ready for Some Football??

It's James' most favorite time of the year - the beginning of football season!!

After watching opening night on Thursday where the Steelers beat the Titans 13-10 (yay!), James was super excited for today's first full day of games.

Even though we didn't get to watch the Colts game at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, James and Peyton were dressed for their team.

James followed the game online and was happy with the Colts' two touchdowns. First, by Joseph Addai, and then a touchdown pass from Peyton Manning (#18) to Reggie Wayne.

TOUCHDOWN!

The Colts beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 14-12. Not the best win, but a win is a win.

Bye Bye Bassinet

In late August, we decided that it was time to transform Peyton's bassinet into a big crib.

As you can see from these first two pictures, taken in July, Peyton was getting very cramped in the bassinet. He could hold the sides when he stretched out his arms and could kick against the endrails.

The big crib has so much more room! Peyton loves watching his monkey mobile and enjoys napping in it.
